It all began innocently enough in 1996, when his college was hiring student interns to design their webpages. He didn’t even know HTML. But he used his professional experience at graphics to build some of the public Web’s early pages.

This project currently takes up 15% of his job responsibilities. John has integrated two content management systems (ExpressionEngine, Blojsom) to deliver up-to-date content for a small, but technology-vibrant school district. He has designed each page, weblog template, and individual school webpage. He manages both front-end design and back-end database support, regularly pubishing podcasts and over 200 weblogs.

After desiging over 21 iterations of the biberfan property since 1998, John’s personal weblog now focuses on his passion for baroque music. John regularly contributes content, reviewing classical recordings, and musing about enjoying musical recordings.

A new project dedicated to a community of restaurant reviewers. John’s love of gastronomy has focused on a new blog and video content that began in 2006. MessyCuisine is a place to find restaurant reviews and the design here, like on biberfan, makes tidy use of an already established WordPress theme.
Today John takes-on a limited number of freelance jobs desiging clean Websites with XHTML+CSS and EMCA-Script (Javascript) to build web-standards-based solutions. He still maintains his hands in print-based work, as well, using Adobe Illustrator and InDesign.
