What a great lesson Dan introduces on his blog of late, asking students to estimate the value of a number of different liquids.
Sure, from the techie standpoint, he lets them use their cell phones. And Google. Is he teaching them math here? No, he’s teaching them a twenty-first century skill: you can use the tech in your pocket to contact the Oracle, né Google, for help. I like it.
But then, yes, he is teaching math skills in the bigger picture.
He’s got unit conversion, he’s got engaging discussion, and he’s got an answer that simply amazes you: HP printer ink is more expensive than blood, than water, than oil, than just about anything other liquid you can think of.
