A teacher might use any number of these photos for a discussion. “What’s going on?” “Why do these ladies have to wear masks?” Beyond skills in visual literacy, students might then have to map onto Google Earth the approximate locations of some of these photos.
What’s so intriguing about these photos is that they bring us to parts of the world we wouldn’t ever otherwise see. Students would be prepared to answer questions like these:
- Where do cell phones come from?
- What kinds of jobs are dangerous?
- Where does pasta come from?
without one-word, memorized answers.
