On Wednesday, 10 December, I will be speaking at the Virginia Educational Leadership Conference (ETLC) in Roanoke. My topic is Modifying Pedagogical Culture with 21st Century Skills. You can see the presentation on this website or by visiting Google Docs.
I will be speaking about the G21 project(s) this year. Change is always a difficult thing to talk about because there are so many barriers to change. To change in a school environment, all stakeholders need to be aware of the change. While we inform parents and students why we do a number of things, we must emphasize what the world just might be like in a few years. As some tell us, there are so many unknowns. We do know that you have to be prepared.
Preparation includes the ability to problem-solve, learn on your own, and adapt to.. change.
Change for teachers is hard. It would be for anyone. Changing teaching style, teaching tools, etc., all have challenges attached. We started with our administrators, gave teachers some real-world experiences, then set-up individual plans for project-based lessons. I’ll speak at length about the process.
I hope to see you at ETLC this year. I believe my presentation is at 1:30 PM. If not, leave some comments or questions here on the blog.
