What is learning?

January 31st, 2008

Being the catalyst to the thoughts of students is the most important role of a teacher, because, again, it is what changes the world.

An interesting read about the roles of a teacher, and what struggle I know many face in a time when many are calling for a transition in pedagogical models/techniques.

Thanks for the link! We are facing a time of struggle.

What do you think the biggest hurdle is in this transition?

I believe teachers need support for changing they way they operate in the classroom. They need permission and validation that changing their role in the classroom is okay and positive. We need better assessment strategies other than bubble tests to inform everyone more quickly that changes in pedagogy are having a positive effect. So–the biggest hurdle is getting people to change. Isn’t that same with about anything in life?
